Food and Drink in the Marais

A couple who rent out their apartment have put together a guide to the Marais around the apartment, which should be handy for us. They list and describe the supermarkets, the boulangeries, the fromageries, etc. On Rue St. Paul they mention "Miravidi – my favorite costume jewelry shop in Paris" which I already have on our Google map - we were going to pick up something for Camila and Laina. They say "Miss Manon is an excellent boulangerie and even better pâtisserie on the corner of rue Saint Antoine and rue Saint Paul." It is closed on Monday so we better pick up something on Sunday. I sure hope the refrigerator in the apartment is BIG.

16 Rue St. Paul, Paris - our home away from home

Yes, we will be in the Marais which retains the charm of medieval Paris as it escaped Baron Haussmann’s redesign of the city and later the major urbanization overhaul in the 1960’s. Originally the area was a swamp, flooded by the Seine and used for market gardens. It started to become residential in the 13^th century with convents followed by the nobility’s country homes. The nearby Place de Vosges (Place Royale) was built by Henri IV in 1605 and spearheaded the development of the elegant hotels particuliers reminiscent of tiny castles. And it includes the Pompidou for a little of the 20^th century.

Yet, we are also close to the proletarian Bastille with less elaborate buildings and the symbols of the 1789 Revolution. And its markets!

So here is a picture of our apartment’s living room (salon). Click on the picture to see more of the apartment. Close examination does show what appear to be a radiator or two to answer the question about heat.
