The Weather in Aix

Fighting the Mistral

I’ve been very happy with the weather in Aix-en-Provence so far and I haven’t even been there!  At first I was collecting the forecast for each day between April 10 and May 23, but you know how that can be.  Then I found the Time and Date website with the past weather so I’ve been using that:

As you can see, it’s been quite pleasant.  The lowest has been 46 and the highest 81 but the vast majority of days have lows in the 50s and highs in the 70s, which seems pretty delightful to me.  And most days are sunny or at worst partly sunny.  Very little rain but a fair amount of wind and there are all sorts of winds in Provence:  the Mistral, the Transmontane,  the Levant, the Scirocco, the Marin.  

Frederic Mistral

The most famous is the Mistral, a cold northwest wind that brings clear skies.  I’ll need to pick up a santon of Frederic Mistral fighting the Mistral for our nativity scene.  Oh oh.  It looks like I’ll have to pick up two.  It’s a shepherd that’s fighting the Mistral, not Frederic Mistral.  I actually expect to pick up more than two since I need one of Cezanne and a fishwife would be nice, or maybe a woman making aioli. The Rain in Spain

Galicia is supposed to have lots of rain - that's why it's green like Ireland - so we better plan on getting drenched once a day.  We've bought ponchos although I meant to waterproof my old windbreaker and the CampDry I bought dissolved the lining in the small area I tested so I didn't "waterproof" the rest of it.  We also have waterproof pack covers for our big backpack although they are overkill for the little ones we'll be carrying.  Here's the descriptive forecasts for the area.  Since Sarria and Santiago are only about 100 km apart the weather forecast should be pretty similar for the towns in between.  Weather Underground doesn't have the forecast beyond Friday May 8 so that will be a surprise.

Sarria - Sunday night, May 3 to Tuesday May 5

Melide - Wednesday May 6 to Friday May 8

Heavy Rain (Showers)

So the forecast for Saturday is "Heavy Rain", worse than Friday which is only "Heavy Rain Showers". You can check out what the weather in Glasgow looks like with the St. George Square webcam or with this streaming video of Buchanan Street. (On my apple, I have to depress the mouse button with the cursor on the side scrollbar to keep it from flickering on and off - maybe it is different in windows.)
The Evening Times has traffic webcams. They also have a video tour of the West End called "A Walk on the West Side" (except it is not playing on my apple). I'll check out the rest of the West End videos at work on a Windows machine. The Evening Times layout on the mac is all screwy as well and some of their links aren't active.
OH WAIT!! I just rechecked the weather forecast and now it says that on Saturday there will be "Sunny Intervals" and the "Heavy Rain" has been pushed off till Sunday.
